The common ways people tip movers
There’s no fixed rule, but three approaches show up again and again in moving-industry guidance:
- A flat amount per mover: often about $20–$50 per mover for a typical move, more for a long day
- By the hour: roughly $4–$10 per mover for each hour of work
- A percentage of the bill: around 5–10%, split among the crew
The calculator above averages these so you get one sensible number.
When people tip more
Stairs, heavy items like pianos or safes, a hot Austin afternoon or a crew that went above and beyond are common reasons to add a little. Cold drinks and lunch are appreciated too—especially in a Texas summer.
How to tip
Hand cash to each crew member at the end of the job, or give the total to the crew lead to share. If you can’t tip, a kind word and a review mean a lot to a small, family-owned crew.
Tipping is optional
A tip is a thank-you, never a requirement. Your written proposal from a Texas mover covers the cost of the move itself. See how moving quotes work in Texas.
