Four weeks out
Choose the mover and define the job.
Write down both addresses, your target date, the approximate number of rooms and anything unusually heavy or delicate. Note stairs, elevators, gates, parking limits and long carries. Those details help a mover estimate the real work.
Verify the company
Texas requires household-goods movers operating within the state to be licensed through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Ask for the company’s certificate number and verify that it is active. Advantage Moving’s TXDMV number is 000572890B.
Get the proposal in writing
Review the services, pricing approach, maximum amount due, payment terms and access charges before move day. Do not rely on verbal promises. Ask questions while there is still time to adjust the plan.
Two weeks out: pack and edit
- Donate or dispose of things that should not make the trip.
- Label boxes by destination room, not just contents.
- Keep fragile items separate from heavy items.
- Confirm building move windows and elevator reservations.
- Arrange utilities and address changes.
If time is short, book packing help for the whole home or just the rooms that take longest.
Move week: protect the essentials
Keep identification, medications, money, jewelry, important documents, chargers, keys and a change of clothes with you. Confirm the arrival window, parking plan and contact numbers. Photograph valuable pieces and note existing condition.
Move day: review before signing
Walk through the property before loading and again after delivery. Check the shipment and note visible damage or missing items on the paperwork. Keep copies of the proposal, contract and payment record.
